The main contributor of our paintings is Gail C. Chandler who paints in retirement and for her enjoyment. Her mother Loretta Chandler who is about 75% Cherokee and English/Scottish also paints, and we will display some of her work here also, along with Loretta's sister Hellen Cleaver, who has painted for over 40 years and is no longer painting. We hope you enjoy browsing our website. Our contact details are at the of bottom of the page if you have an intrest in any of the paintings.

Throughout my years as an artist, I've found that emotion is more fragile than the medium that I am working with. I strive to capture many emotions that various species of life share. I enjoy using light and bold colors in all my works. I have always worked with various types of mediums. I loved challenging myself to learn as many styles and mediums of the art world as possible and ways to add them into my own works. I have approximately 40 art credits in college studying for an art degree in Colorado and Missouri. All these things have helped me gain the most benefit in understanding medium and color.

I started painting approximately 40 years ago. The picture of me here is painting with a group of people in Castlerock Colorado, it was in the news that evening about our group getting together. I am 60 now, and continue to spend time with various mediums in a retired setting. Thank you for taking the time to look at our various works on here. Have a blessed day.

Loretta Chandler and Hellen Cleaver

This picture was taken of Hellen Cleaver to the left, age 94 at the time, (she passed away on Monday, March 25, 2024, at Century Villa Health Care & Rehabilitation, in Greentown.) Gail Christine Chandler age 60, in the middle, and Loretta O. Chandler age 83 to the right (She has also sadly passed away.), was taken on August 3d, 2023 in Greentown Indiana.

Hellen is Gail's aunt, and Loretta is Gail's mother. All three women have had a life and love of painting and studying art. Hellen also has many memories and stories about our Cherokee family's history. Her grandma Francis Mahalia Gilbert was born on the St. Francis river in Missouri in a teepee on the river, so she was named after the river and her name Mahalia was a Cherokee name that means Eyes of the sky, because she had blue eyes. Hellen is now in a nursing home and loves to talk about her memories as a child with their large family. We all enjoy hearing all those stories that they speak of. They always encouraged the love of art in people they were around.
